Conference of National IP Office Head Held in Beijing
On January 5, 2017, Conference of National IP Office Head was held in Beijing, with the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) head Shen Changyu addressing a work report named Deepen IP Sector Reform and Strengthen IP Protection and Application so as to Realize Significant Improvement in Building an IP Power Country with All Efforts. The report said that the country had over 3.47 million patent applications in 2016, up 23.8 percent year on year; the number of Chinese international patent applications filed under the World Intellectual Property Organization's Patent Cooperation Treaty hit 40,000 last year.
China Plans to Assign Intellectual Property Right Officials to Its Embassies
On January 17, the State Council Information Office held a press conference centering on the 13th Five-Year National Plan on IPR Protection and Utilization. Gan Shaoning, deputy commissioner of the State Intellectual Property Office, revealed that China is studying the possibility to assign intellectual property right officials to its embassies, aimed at helping enterprises to go abroad and serving the Belt and Road initiative.
The Press Conference of IP Laws and Regulations Compilation Held in Beijing
On January 14, the 2017 IP Annual Forum & the Press Conference of IP Laws and Regulations Compilation was held by the editorial board of IP Laws and Regulations Compilation in China Intellectual Property Training Center in Beijing. Jiang Zhipei, the former president of Intellectual Property Tribunal of China’s Supreme People’s Court and other leaders attended and made keynote speeches. The conference was consisted of two parts, of which the first part was about the introduction of related situations of IP Laws and Regulations Compilation, and the second part was about 2017 IP Annual Forum.
The Spirit of National IP Protection and Application Plan under the Thirteenth Five-Year Plan Passed on
The State Council printed and distributed National IP Protection and Application under the 13th Five-Year Plan and the General Office of the State Council of the PRC printed and distributed the Overall Plan of IP General Management and Reform Pilot. On January 13th, SIPO held a meeting to learn the above two important documents. SIPO’s commissioner Shen Changyu stressed that the central spirit and the document deployment should be carefully learned and implemented, and the construction of a powerful IP country should be accelerated.
Professionals Gather in Tianjin to Discuss Strengthening Patent Protection Measures
On February 7, The Symposium of Strengthening Patent Protection Measures was held, with experts specialized in IP research, professionals of Tianjin Higher People’s Court, lawyers and IP managers of enterprises attending the symposium and discussing countermeasures and steps of strengthening patent protection measures, formulating related suggestions and making good connections between the administrative enforcement and judicial protection. This described a blueprint for implementing the spirit of 2017 Tianjin Technology IP Working Conference and Several Opinions on Strengthening Patent Protection issued by SIPO.
