2007/06/01,By Harry Yang, China IP,[Trademark]

May 30 – Jointly sponsored by Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property, Sughrue Mion, PLLC and J.VEGA & ASOCIADOS, the International Trademark Forum: Protecting Chinese Trademarks in the Arab, US & Latin American Regions is held in Beijing today.

With the acceleration of economic globalization, trademarking has become a core competency of a company. As more Chinese trademarks are registered in foreign countries, more Chinese enterprises and agencies have begun to shift their attention to international trademark strategies and related issues. The forum is intended to introduce trademark legislation, registration procedures, required documents and practices in Arab, US and Latin America, and to answer the questions of Chinese enterprises and agencies.

Moreover, it discussed the urgency to protect Chinese trademarks in foreign countries, as well as the difficulties involved in registration and protection. Chinese companies also talked about their own experiences at the forum. Currently, at least more than 100 Chinese trademarks are snatched in other countries each year. Last year Lenovo Group had over 50 of its trademarks illegally snatched. The snatching of the “白家” trademark in Germany is still in judicial proceeding.
