2009 BRIC IP Forum Held in Beijing

China IP,[Comprehensive Reports]

The 2009 BRIC IP Forum was held in Beijing on November 22-24, being the first forum to discuss IP affairs of the four emerging countries: Brazil, Russia, India and China.

Themed “Significance and Strategy of Intellectual Property Rights in Downturn Economy”, the forum was jointly created by law firms from the four countries -- DANIEL ADVOGADOS, Rio de JANEIRO (Brazil), GORODISSKY & PARTNERS, Moscow (Russia), REMFRY & SAGAR, Gurgaon (India) and CCPIT Patent and Trademark Law Office (China) -- and supported by the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI) China and Licensing Executives Society (LES) China.

Participants gave briefs on the IP system and latest trends of their respective countries. Scholars and judges from the State Intellectual Property Office, Supreme People’s Court, the General Administration of Customs and law schools introduced the third revision of China’s Patent Law, latest developments in IP protection, Customs’ IP protection and the trade secret protection in China. American lawyers also gave enlightening lectures.

The exchange platform by BRIC will facilitate dialogue between emerging countries and traditional powers as well as communication and cooperation between countries.
