Up to December 9, 2010, applications for trademark registration in China reached 8,213,000, among which 5,545,000 flings were registered. Valid registrations accounted for 4,481,200, ranking frst in the world.

Up to November 18, 2010, 1 million patent applications were filed at the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO), with 70 thousand applications granted. The applications in 2010 doubled the number filed in 2005. The registrations have doubled and redoubled.

Between 2007 and 2009, the Chinese government spent 794 billion Yuan in purchasing legal software. The procurement scale of genuine operating system software products increases every year.

China has approved 1,012 applications of geographical indications (GIs), among which the foreign GIs accounted for 37.

The statistics, jointly issued by the State Intellectual Property Office and the National Bureau of Statistics, shows that among 429 thousand scope enterprises, 25,375 scope enterprises fled patent applications in 2009, up 41.7% over the same period last year. 18,951 enterprises obtained authorization, up 42.7%. 30,903 enterprises own valid patents, occupying 7.2% of the total scope of enterprises.
