WIPO Assemblies 2018 Being Held

The 58th series of meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) are being held from September 24th to October 2nd in Geneva, Switzerland. The delegation of Japan, which includes Ms. Munakata, Commissioner of the Japan Patent Office (JPO); and Mr. Shimano, Deputy Commissioner of the JPO, is attending the meetings. At the opening session, on behalf of Japan, Commissioner Munakata delivered a General Statement. In her statement, she spoke about the primary role of WIPO, which should be to provide services that place user needs at the forefront. Also, she introduced specific initiatives that Japan has been undertaking, such as support for start-ups. In addition, she expressed her expectations for WIPO to be a role model, exemplifying the best possible international organization that always puts users first. During the Assemblies of the Member States of WIPO, discussions will be conducted on numerous important issues, such as various yearly reports.
