Top legislature closes bimonthly session, revised laws adopted

The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) closed its four-day bimonthly session April 23, adopting the revised Judges Law and the Procurators Law, as well as an amendment to a package of eight laws including the Construction Law. Li Zhanshu, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, presided over the closing meeting, attended by 170 committee members. The lawmakers ratified a treaty between China and Barbados on criminal judicial assistance, and another between China and Azerbaijan on the transfer of sentenced persons. During the session, the lawmakers also reviewed other legislative bills, including the draft vaccine administration law, the revised drug administration law, and the sections on personality and property rights of the draft civil code Li said the adopted revisions to the Judges Law and the Procurators Law consolidated and deepened the achievements of judicial reform. The adopted amendment to a package of eight laws would further improve the business environment, he said.
