2009/08/27

August 25: One year later, the case of "Tomatolei.com" again arouses discussion among netizens. Last Thursday, Huqiu District Court of Suzhou made a verdict and webmaster of Tomatolei.com, Hong Lei, was sentenced to three and half year's prison and one million's fine. Some netizens believed the punishment of the verdict to be too heavy.

Tomatolei.com is the most famous pirate XP group, which was founded on May 11, 2004 and mainly offers Windows XP and other pirate software download service. With the accusations of Microsoft and other companies, Hong Lei and other persons involving the case all had been caught by the police.

As of the release of the article, there were 81,283 netizens participating in the discussion. About 80.07% netizens chose "too heavy" when asked whether the punishment was too heavy against Hong Lei, 3.54% netizens chose "too minor", and the left chose not to make any comment.

Additionally, 13.26% netizens agreed on nation's increased forces against large scale online piracy, 63.09% disagreed, and 23.65% chose not to make any comment.

The above survey shows that, netizens' supporting rate for nation's IP protection increases a lot comparing to that of last year.
