Tian Lipu Talks with Newly-appointed USPTO Director on Phone

On August 26, Director of the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) Tian Lipu, called to congratulate the newly-appointed Director of the United State Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) David J. Kappos.

Tian Lipu noted that, China and the U.S. have reinforced cooperation in almost every field in recent years and got smooth development in several areas. Both the two countries’ IPOs play a very important role in international IP affairs. Mr. Tian expressed strong expectation on further communication and discussion in the related affairs with Kappos.

Kappos said he was very happy to boost the cooperation between the two offices based on achievements gained already. Meanwhile, he appraised highly the accomplishments of the third revision of Chinese Patent Law and was willing to offer suggestions on the Amendment to the Guidelines for Patent Examination.

Mr. Tian pointed that State Intellectual Property Office will complete the amendment to the Guidelines for Patent Examination in a short time, and make preparations for the implementation of the new patent law; China is expecting suggestions from U.S.’s experts.

In the call, Kappos also invited Mr. Tian to visit USPTO in the future and was accepted.
