Yantai-Made Drilling Rig Finds Oil, Gas in Norway

2020/07/14

"Wonderful Yantai", a Yantai-made semi-submersible drilling rig, recently struck oil and gas in the DUGONG area of the North Sea in Norway, according to company officials.
They said it is the world's first drilling rig named after Yantai – the port city in China's eastern Shandong province -- which reveals Yantai's outstanding manufacturing ability.
The rig is used for harsh polar seas and was designed by both Norway's Global Maritime Company and Yantai-based CIMC Raffles, China's largest semi-submersible drilling rig manufacturer.
CIMC Raffles owns 80 percent of the rig’s independent intellectual property rights and it completed all the detailed design and construction design -- achieving a total of 11 major technological breakthroughs and 114 optimization improvements, company officials said.
They said this increased the drilling rig's operating capacity by 19 percent.
The drilling rig was directly delivered to the North Sea in Norway once completed and started to operate in November 2019.
The client Neptune Energy praised the efficient and stable performance of the rig. The drilling efficiency was expected to increase by 20 percent -- well above expectations.
