Chinese expert: Chinese should be WIPO working language

2009/12/24

Director of the Expert Committee of Chinese Trademark Association Dong Baolin put forward on December 22 when being interviewed, the International Bureau of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) should use Chinese as work language in Madrid System and at the same time, Dong suggested Chinese government to hand in a proposal to WIPO.
Dong Baolin pointed out that, the international registration applications filed by Chinese enterprises have occupied the eighth position in Madrid Alliance for four straight years, ranking the first in developing countries. However, the trademark gazette of the International Bureau is in English and French. Chinese people can not see Chinese gazette, so Chinese people can not master the dynamic situation of trademark registration of the International Bureau of WIPO. We Chinese can not get information when our trademarks are registered by other countries and can not timely raise disagreement, or we register the same trademark as other country's without awareness.
