Xinjiang makes great strides in patent applications

In the first half this year, State Intellectual Property Office accepted 467,000 pieces of patent applications, with a year-on-year growth of 9.6%. Among these applications, resident applications were 414,000, jumping 9.6% over the same period of last year and accounting for 88.0%. Xinjiang filed 1,744 items of patent applications, rising by 18.3%.

  Among the patent applications received by the SIPO during the first two quarters, applications for invention patents were 164,000 pieces, up 10.8% and taking up 35.1% of the total; applications for utility model patents were 165,000, increasing by 16.2% and accounting for 35.3% of the total amount; applications for design patents were 138,000 items, up 1.5% and occupying 29.6%. Among Xinjiang’s patent applications, applications for invention patents were 406 pieces, growing by 23.3% and taking up 23.3% of the total amount; filings for utility model patents were 1,151 items, rising by 21.2% and taking up 66% of the total; applications for design patents were 197 pieces, decreasing by 2.6% over the same period of last year and accounting for 10.7% of the total.

  During the first half of the year 2010, Xinjiang newly obtained 1,011 items of patent grants, increasing by 13.7%. Of these patent grants, invention patents were 64 pieces, up 12.3% and accounting for 6.3% of the total; utility model patents were 775 pieces, growing by 31.4% and taking up 76.7% of the total; and design patents were 172 pieces, down 28.9% and accounting for 17.0% of the total.
