“Cowherd and Weaver Girl” Elected as National Intangible Culture Heritage

The “Cowherd and Weaver Girl” project, launched by Doumen Street, Changan District of Xi’an City was a success and they received a listing in the third directory of the National Intangible Culture Heritage issued by the Ministry of Culture.
 
The legend of the “Cowherd and Weaver Girl” originated from Doumen Street, Changan district. Cowherd and Weaver Girl were originally two stars in the Milky Way galaxy and developed into a legend in Western Han Dynasty. After hundreds of years of circulation, it has become a well-known beautiful folk tale and topped as one of the four ancient “love legends.”
 
In 798 of the Tang Dynasty a temple to worship the Weaver Girl was built on Doumen Street and since that time it has attracted millions of visitors.
