The First Case of Input Software: Both Tencent and Sohu Compensate 20,000 to Each Other

2010/08/12

On June 22 “the first case of input software in China” came to a temporary end: both Tencent and Sohu were charged with unfair competition. The first decision was pronounced by Beijing’s No. 1 Intermediate People’s Court in which Sohu’s Sogou Company lost and was ordered to compensate Tencent 240,000 Yuan. The second case of Sogou suing Tencent for unfair competition to Beijing NO.2 Intermediate People’s Court had the opposite verdict: Tencent lost the lawsuit and was compensated 231,500 Yuan.

It’s reported that, besides Tencent and Sohu, the two large antivirus software manufactures: Qihoo 360 and Kingsoft Corporation Limited sued each other for unfair competition. Some experts say the mutual appeals of Qihoo 360 and Kingsoft Corporation Limited may have a similar result with Tencent and Sohu. And they expressed their concern that the Internet will get caught in the vicious circle in which competitors frequently fight against each other through lawsuits, and this will undermine the Internet image of China.
