"By the end of the 12th Five Year Plan (2011-2015), invention applications received by SIPO every year are expected to double over the current number, More companies will have their own patents and IPRs." said SIPO Commissioner Tian Lipu, in an interviewe televised by the CCTV Primetime News on February 12. He elaborated the implementation of the National IP Strategy and its important role in accelerating transformation of ways to economic growth.

Duing the 11th Five Year Plan, 54 IPR laws, rules and documents were fomulated and amended; 82 policy measures have been released; SIPO received cumulative 4.3 million patent applications, representing 60% of all applications SIPO ever received. Some 1.46 million ones were inventions and 490,000 ones were granted, up 100% over the total of the previous 20 years.

It is expected that SIPO will receive 750,000 invention applications per year by the end of the 12th Five Year Plan, which is double of that in the end of 11th Five Year Plan.
