Beijing uncovered IP cases involving 187 million yuan in five months

Beijing public security organs have seized 475 criminals involved in intellectual property (IP) violations and manufacture and trafficking of counterfeits by the end of March 2011, which effectively deterred IPR crimes and purified market environment.

From November 2010 to the end of March 2011, the city has conducted 5 activities on destroying fake commodities, dispatched law enforcement officials for 227 thousand person-times, investigated over 110 thousand business entities including electronic markets, publication markets and retail businesses and uncovered 78 cases involving 187 million yuan and 225 suspects. The courts in the city have resolved 2,569 civil dispute cases on intellectual property, in which, cases related to copyrights, patent and trademarks were 2,010, 112 and 146 respectively.

Hong Feng and Cheng Hong, both deputy mayors of Beijing, required relevant departments to promote IP protection by supervising key areas such as electronic information, medicine and publications, investigating a batch of serious cases and establishing a long-term IP protection mechanism to protect innovative brands in the city.
