Zhejiang: Yiwu starts IPR protection action

In July this year, Yiwu launched a one-year special action to protect intellectual property rights so as to build itself into a national IPR demonstration city and further enhance its international image.

The special action is centered around the protection of copyrights, trademarks and patents in key areas of large-scale exhibitions, commodity distributing centers, goods import and export and e-commerce, including books, audio-visual products, software, bags, cosmetics, toys, stationery, clothing, footwear, food and medicine. Cases of strong social impact will be under investigation.

At present, Yiwu has established six mechanisms, namely, joint law enforcement, joint conference, liaison, credit points, self checking and correcting, IP training for market players. The special action will be jointly taken by departments of technology and science, industry and commerce, SMG, quality supervision, public security, Customs and other departments. In addition to resolving outstanding issues, the special action will also pay close attention to daily monitoring and supervision.

The industrial and commercial sector has remedied the animation and toy industry this year, investigating 40 IP cases involved with cartoon toys and prosecuting 3 criminal cases .

According to the "three-year action plan", Yiwu, through the special action, is aimed to establish a long-term IPR protection mechanism and increase enterprises' capacity in using intellectual property rules so as to avoid operation risks.
