2011/09/07

According to Tian Lipu, Commissioner of the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO), patents are now regarded as an important impulse to drive the nation's economic development and to support the growing of traditional and emerging industries in today's China, which is now experiencing an optimizing and updating process in its industrial structures.

He said this when he was addressing at the 2011 China Patent Information Annual Meeting on the morning of September 5.

As a governmental institution, SIPO on one hand fulfills its responsibility by dedicating to the establishment and improvement of a patent information service platform and providing better and more convenient services to the public, while on the other, it actively promotes the development of intellectual property information service industry and encourages more enterprises and service agencies to engage in patent information business so as to meet the growing needs of creators, said Tian.

"We believe that the utilization of patent information shall be embodied in the whole process of an enterprise's creative activities," emphasized Tian. For enterprises, the use of patent information and the design of their business strategies shall be viewed as equally important and they need to pay great attention to the collection, management of patent information and enhance the early-warning mechanism to make patent information an indispensible element in their innovative development.
