CHENGDU - China's industry and commerce supervisory body on Wednesday said that nearly 1,200 websites selling fake goods have been closed.

The State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) said that local authorities have checked a total of 504,728 websites on the Internet since last November and had shut down 1,199 websites in violation of trademark laws by the end of June.

Meanwhile, another 6,895 websites were ordered to stop their violations of trademark regulations. A total of 38,446 products with fraudulent trademarks were deleted from the Internet, said Zhang Junqin, an official with the SAIC Trademark Department.

Zhang made the remarks at the 4th China Trademark Festival being held in Chengdu, capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province.

Zhang said the SAIC will continue to crack down on online sales of products that violate trademark laws and will enhance the protection of intellectual property rights on the Internet.
