Hainan destroyed 20 illicit workshops in Drawing Sword Action

2011/09/13

Since the launch of the Drawing Sword Action, public security organs across Hainan Province have uncovered 40 cases involved with intellectual property violations and counterfeiting. 100 suspects including 26 online criminals have been arrested.

From September 1 to December 31 this year, Hainan public security organs, under the deployment of the Ministry of Public Security, will carry out a new-round Drawing Sword Action so as to severely combat IPR infringement and counterfeiting.

Centering around the faith of "anti-counterfeiting for people and country", Hainan public security organs spare no effort in carrying out the action so as to step up the establishment of Hainan as an international tourist island as well as the construction of its social credit system.

As of the end of August this year, public security organs uncovered 40 cases, arrested 100 suspects, destroyed 20 illicit workshops, dismantled 17 sales gangs and confiscated a series of counterfeit goods (wine, food, agriculture material) and equipments valued at 50 million yuan.

A spokesman of the Economic Crime Investigation Department of Hainan Provincial Public Security said it is an arduous task to fight against IPR infringement and counterfeiting.

In view of the fact that most counterfeits come from other provinces and most criminals are not local citizens, Hainan public security organs stick to the general approach of "to uncover major cases, dismantle illicit websites and workshops, destroy criminal origins and seize criminals" to combat counterfeit foods, medicines, agricultural materials and branded products. Meanwhile, taking the chance of "Cleaning the Internet", public security organs will hunt down online escaped criminals.

A series of publicity campaigns, themed with "Further Promoting the 'Drawing Sword Action' and Purifying Consuming Market", will be conducted to support the action.

In detail, it is set to build a "Drawing Sword" column on TV, open a microblog, hold press conferences and organize achievement exhibitions to improve consumers' awareness and mobilize the public and right holders to engage in the action.
