120 IP theft cases investigated during Universiade 2011

Recently, the 26th Universiade Summer Games came to an end. During this period, Shenzhen has handled over 120 cases violating the intellectual property rights of the game. The administrative organs have filed 20 cases with 5 consituting criminal offences and confiscated more than 5,000 flags, 4,000 reusable shopping bags, 500 T-shirts suspected of infringing the registered trademarks and distinctive emblems of the Universiade, effectively preventing the IP rights of the event from being stolen.

In an attempt to protect the rights, the organizing committee of the event has registered 62 items including event name, emblem, mascots, key graphs, slogans, as well as 90 trademarks and 606 distinctive emblems in the State Administration for Industry and Commerce.

Meanwhile, the committee has also filed patents for 8 graphic marks such as key graphs, mascots' expressions, torch relay and the event's security signs. The designs of torch and medals have also been registered.
