Statistics released by Zhejiang Intellectual Property Office on January 18 show that patent applications in Yiwu, a city in Zhejiang province, reached 4,440 in 2011, in which, 294 were on inventions, 2,049 were associated with utility models and 2,097 were related to designs; 3,068 applications were approved, in which, 70 were on inventions, 1,388 were on utility models and 1,610 were on designs.
The number of patent applications and grants increased by 89% and 31% respectively on a year-on-year basis, and ranked the 8th and 9th separately among all cities (districts) in the province.
