Beijing: Fakes 'ruining' art market

2012/11/29

A series of forums on intellectual property in calligraphy and painting highlighted Art Week that began at the Beijing World Art Museum on Nov 19. "Without intellectual property protection, there is no guarantee of the authenticity of traded art works," said Lin Li, general manager of consultancy firm Blue Numen, one of the organizers of the event. Forum participants said fakes damage the interests of both buyers and artists and are ruining the art market. Lin called for "systemic art IP protection" to ensure the rights of creators, collectors and art institutions.
