Tianjin issued White Papers on Intellectual Property Protection and Development

On April 23, Tianjin government released two White Papers on intellectual property protection and development respectively, introducing the status quo of the city in implementing intellectual property strategies and building an innovation-based Tianjin.

In 2012, patent applications, grants and patents in force in the city reached 41,500, 20,000, and 52,000, increasing by 14.5%, 43.1% and 30.8% separately and making the total amount of patent grants and patents in force fulfill the target set in the Twelfth Five-Year Plan three years in advance.

The spokesman of the government introduced that the sales revenue generated by patented products from 60local pilot enterprises hit 8.26 billion yuan, accounting for 69.3% of the total revenue. Moreover, the city has carried out a batch of major scientific programs in sectors including electric vehicles, high-end digital equipment, and medicine. 1,510 patent transactions were conducted by 520 entities with the value recorded in all patented technology contracts hitting 330 million yuan.

Furthermore, science and technology based small and medium sized enterprises, which submitted a total of 25,000 filings in 2012, have become the main force in filing patent applications. As many as 2,800 small and medium sized enterprises filed their first-ever application last year.
