There are now a total of 160 agencies in Beijing, with 40 enterprises and public institutions, including Microelectronics of Chinese Academy of Sciences(IMECAS), Beijing Qihoo Technology, Beijing Xiaomi Technology, Beijing Kwinbon Biotechnology and Beijing Jiaotong University, newly added into the collection days ago. Patent applications filed last year by demonstration units in Beijing amounted to 15,800, accounting for 29.9% of the total. Such units have become the pioneering group and vital force of scientific and technical innovation.

The city has seen a great increase in patent applications and grants related to IP advantageous demonstration agencies by implementing five kinds of incentives, namely through strategy, system, institution, staff and funds. Invention patents obtained by the aforementioned 160 units were 6,800, accounting for 34% of the total. Invention patent applications and grants in 2012 were respectively 35.7% and 43.7% more than that of 2011 and 15% more than the municipal average.

As a benchmark of the city's intellectual property rights, patent advantageous demonstration units play an important role in fostering patents. Among ten entities filing over 1,000 patent applications, seven are patent advantageous demonstration units.

In addition, 37 professionals from IPR pilot and demonstration units nationwide were recognized as members of an expert pool by Beijing IPO to help enterprises enhance comprehensive IPR ability and competitiveness through special counseling, case analysis, simulation exercise and exchange of experience.
