The International Intellectual Property Training Institute of the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO; Commissioner Young-min Kim), the China Intellectual Property Training Center (CIPTC), and Japan’s National Center for Industrial Property Information and Training (INPIT) held the Second Joint Seminar on the Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) of Korea, China, and Japan on the subject of "Korean, Chinese, and Japanese cases of IPR disputes and policies to protect IPRs” at the Korea IP Center in Seoul on September 4.
The seminar was prepared to draw up effective measures to respond to IPR disputes in Korea, China, and Japan as well as prepare a system to protect IPRs due to the recent increase in global disputes.
The participants in the seminar were experts on IPR protection and included Xiaodong Fan of the Patent Re-Examination Committee of the State Intellectual Property Office of the People’s Republic of China, Shimako Kato, a Japanese patent attorney, and Team Leader Hyeong-jun Chu of the Korea Intellectual Property Protection Association. The experts provided presentations on the current state of IPR disputes, litigation procedures and court decisions, and major infringement cases in their respective countries.
Patent attorneys, researchers, and workers from export-based and IPR-related businesses also participated in the seminar alongside representatives of Chinese and Japanese companies working in Korea for a free Q&A session and debate between the three countries.
On September 3, the day before the seminar, the three countries held a training center heads meeting to discuss measures for cooperation on IPR training such as e-learning, lecturer exchanges, and the joint development of training courses. Korea also held bilateral working-level meetings with the IP offices of China and Japan.
