DLA Piper hires four-lawyer IP team from Jones Day in Beijing

2013/09/29

DLA Piper has hired IP partner Horace Lam from Jones Day’s Beijing office along with a team of four lawyers.

Lam will join DLA Piper’s Beijing office as a partner and the head of intellectual property in China in October. His practice focuses on intellectual property, covering a wide range of issues such as disputes, protection strategies and licensing.

Prior to joining Jones Day’s Beijing office in May 2011, he was the Beijing managing partner of Hogan Lovells and the head of the firm’s China IP practice.

The team joining Lam are counsel Stacy Yuan and associates Alicia Ma and Helen Ding. In addition, the firm has hired an additional IP lawyer Miya Wen from Rouse.

Lam’s departure from Jones Day comes just months after the US firm’s decision to adjust its resources and team configurations in Greater China, a move that could lead to a substantial downsize in Beijing (31 May 2013).

The Beijing office is expected to halve in size with the firm in the process of relocating several partners and associates to Shanghai and Hong Kong.
