Shanghai: Invention patents per ten thousand residents reaching 19.88

From January to October 2013, Shanghai saw its patent applications amount to 67,114, up 4.7% on a year-on-year basis, in which applications on inventions and utility models were 30,084 and 28,144, increasing by 5.2% and 7.6% respectively, while those on designs got to 8,886, down 4.5%. International patent filings under PCT reached 668, down 15.1%.

During the same period, patent grants in the city accumulated to 41,114, down 1.5%, in which grants on inventions and designs were 9,094 and 6,933, decreasing by 4.6% and 23.2%, while those on utility models totaled 25,087, up 8.3%. 

As of the end of October, invention patents in force in Shanghai grew to 47,292, up 21.7% with 19.88 invention patents held by every ten thousand local residents.
