Jilin: Intellectual property as a strong drive for innovation

2013/12/27

A workshop on intellectual property demonstration cities at national level was convened in Changchun, capital city of Jilin province, on December 24. Deputy Commissioner of the State Intellectual Property Office He Hua participated in the meeting. He expressed his congratulations to Changchun for the city being identified as one of the national intellectual property demonstration cities.

Since the implementation of a patent assistance program in 2001, Changchun has achieved great accomplishment in intellectual property. Its applications on inventions accounted for 47.7% of the total patent filings, 20% higher than the national average level. In terms of trademarks, Chinese Well-known Trademarks held by the city increased from one in 2005 to 35, Jilin Famous Trademarks from 60 to 242, and geographical indications from zero to six.

He proposed four kinds of suggestions on the next phase of work, that is, the city needs to increase the level of IP creation and implementation, strengthen IP enforcement, provide more guidance and services to enterprises, and further explore IP management model in accordance with the city's economic development.

Changchun is undergoing a key period of economic adjustment and upgrading, said Jiang Zhiying, Mayor of the city, therefore it is of great importance to promote intellectual property protection which is a key drive for innovation. The city should also make a full play of a national IP demonstration city to make further progress in this regard.
