Shen Changyu Has Video Meeting with EPO President

Recently, Shen Changyu, Commissioner of the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO), had a video meeting with Benot Battistelli, President of European Patent Office (EPO) in Beijing. Shen Changyu said that China and EU had conducted close cooperation in hot IP topics for years, which not only elevated bilateral cooperation up to strategic partnership, but also kept good communication in areas such as multilateral cooperation, injecting vitality into the development of global IP.
  

Shen Changyu said that the 2015 would witness the 30th anniversary of the two offices' cooperation. The deepening strategic partnership serves not only the need of both sides developing their patent system, but also the interests of Chinese and European people. The strengthening of the two offices' cooperation will finally benefit IP users worldwide, and make active contributions to the regional economic growth and social development. He hoped that both sides continue to go hand in hand and contribute to the benign development of international IP system.
  

Benot Battistelli said EPO and SIPO were both influential in the world and had been keeping high-level and high-quality cooperative relations for years with their strategic partnership strengthening continuously. EPO has always been attaching great importance to the strategic partnership with SIPO. And both sides are also keeping good communication in international IP hot topics. He hoped that both sides continued to maintain this good momentum and further promote the in-depth development of each other.

The friendly cooperation between SIPO and EPO began with the bilateral cooperation agreement in 1985. The two offices signed the strategic partnership agreement officially in 2007. Both sides have conducted effective cooperation in areas such as data exchange, automation, classification, patent examination and capacity building.
