May 4th was the first weekday after the implementation of new Chinese Trademark Law. People were crowded into the Trademark Office of the State Administration for Industry & Commerce of P.R.C. (the Trademark Office). Enterprises and trademark agencies across China including Shanghai Hengyuanxiang Group scrambled to register China’s first sound trademark. It was reported that the trademark agent of Hengyuanxiang Group has filed an application of sound trademark on the classic sound of “Hengyuanxiang, yangyangyang.” The Trademark Office accepted the application on the same day. It was expected to obtain the registered trademark in no more than 9 months.
