Yili sued Mengniu for unfair competition

In 2012, Yili Industrial Group launched a drink specially designed for children “QQ Star Nutrient Juice Leben Drink”, which included the banana flavor and strawberry flavor, and adopted the 3D package of Disney cartoon image. Through title sponsorship of advertising in the program “Dad, Where Are We Going?”, this product enjoyed very high popularity. In April 2015, Mengniu also launched a product named as “Future Star Nutrient Juice Leben Drink”, which also included the balance and strawberry flavors, and adopted 3D package with cartoon image as blueprint. In addition, QQ Star and Future Star were consistent in terms of packaging specification, namely 4 bottles formed one group, and 4 groups formed one box. Yili Industrial Group considered that, Mengniu Group’s behavior constituted unfair competition, and requested Mengniu Group to stop the acts of unfair competition such as using the decoration and name of the product involved in the case, to compensate Yili’s economic losses RMB3 million, and to publish a statement to eliminate influences.
