A traditional handicraft office of the Central Academy of Fine Arts was recently established in the county-level city of Chongzhou - the first of its kind in the province. The office will specialize in two intangible cultural heritage items - Daoming bamboo weaving and Huaiyuan rattan weaving. It will also aim to improve other traditional handicrafts in Chengdu, such as Sichuan embroidery and lacquer art, in the hope that they can provide a greater impetus for economic development.
