The animation and gaming sector in Beijing generated 71 billion yuan ($10.58 billion) in output value in 2018, up roughly 13% from 2017, according to the city's bureau of culture and tourism and the Beijing Animation and Game Industry Alliance. Local animation and gaming businesses generated 18.25 billion yuan in exports in 2018, a surge of 57% year-on-year. As a key sector receiving government financial support, the animation and gaming industry in Beijing reaped one-fourth of the best Chinese animation awards in 2018.
