Frankfort Book Fair 2009 opens, China to be the Guest of Honor

On October 13, the renowned Frankfort Book Fair 2009 opened at the Frankfort Exhibition Center, and China dispatches a huge group of exhibitors as the Guest of Honor for the first time. About 7,300 exhibitors from more than 100 countries and regions will come to the fair for copyright transaction; visitors anticipated by the host of the book fair would reach 300,000.

It is of huge significance for China to attend the Frankfort Book Fair as the Guest of Honor. After 30 years’ reform and opening-up, the scale of Chinese book publications tops in the world and China becomes a leading country in the publishing industry. In recent years, Chinese publishing industry has taken the "outward-oriented" strategy. The attendance as the Guest of Honor shows the development of Chinese publishing industry in the 30 years and is also an important signal of the openness and integration into the world of Chinese publishing industry.

The Frankfort Book Fair is said to be the biggest book fair in the world and has huge influences on the global book publishing, thus it is also called the "Olympic" of the publishing industry. Besides, it is the important international copyright transaction market in the world and the annual shares for transaction achieved at the fair accounts about 70% of that globally.

The Frankfort Book Fair was originated by German Book Trade Association in 1949, and is hold in October every year at Frankfort.
