China injects 100 bln yuan for innovation

The central government has put aside 100 billion yuan to support technological innovation for this year and the next. The Minister of Science and Technology says special attention will go towards developing and manufacturing clean energy cars.

The minister of science and technology says the central and local governments will inject large amount of capital to support technology innovation.

Wang Gang, Minister of Science & Technology said "With the premise of adjusting investment structure and ensuring basic research investment, the central government has adjusted the country’s plan on science and technology. It will give priority in supporting industry re-invigoration and high tech development. Within the budgets of local and central governments, 100 billion yuan will go to support technology innovation."

Wang says the government will also increase support in new power automobiles.

Wang Gang said "To push forward energy saving and mass production of new power automobiles, the central government will arrange investment for that. It will support medium and large sized enterprises, and promote hybrid power, electricity and battery automobiles."

Wang Gang says the goal is to offer 60 models of new energy automobiles by 2012.
