Since the regulation of the Expo emblem IPR protection went into effect in October, 2004, all levels of Administration for Industry & Commerce have spared no efforts to protect the IPR of Expo emblems, said Zhao Gang, deputy director of the Trademark Office with the state administration, which is in charge of trade mark and IPR protection in China.
The Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination has registered up to 61 Expo emblems at the state administration and the administration ordered all levels of industry & commerce administrations to regulate the market in the following 18 months to protect the IPR of Expo emblems, Zhao added.
Expo sponsors, Expo licensed product businesses and ticket agencies have been using Expo emblems under the authorization of the Bureau, said Chen Xianjin, deputy director general of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination.
The Bureau has set up an Expo emblems management office to deal with public application of the usage of Expo emblems, Chen added.
The Bureau has received 257 applications and registrations to use Expo emblems and cracked 163 IPR violations of Expo emblems with the help of industry & commerce authorities at various levels, he said.
Chen also said the violation mainly took place in advertisements, online activities, fake Expo licensed products and unauthorized sales of Expo 2010 tickets.
Chen Xuejun, deputy director of Shanghai Administration of Industry and Commerce, said that they have cracked down 84 cases violating Expo emblems and the Shanghai administration will keep its efforts to protect the IPR of Expo emblems.
