NCAC: collective management may solve network copyright issues

On December 2 and 3, co-hosted by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the National Copyright Administration (NCAC), the Seminar on Copyright Protection in the Digital Environment was held in Beijing, aiming to exchange the advanced experience of the copyright collective management organizations in the world and discussed the opportunities, challenges and trend of copyright collective management system in the digital environment.
NCAC Vice Director Yan Xiaohong pointed out that, copyright collective management system is an important indication to weigh the level of a nation in copyright management and protection. Today, the digital and network technologies are experiencing rapid increase and collective management may become the key to solve copyright issues in the network environment. Yan also mentioned that, Chinese government attaches more importance to copyright collective management. In 1992, China set up the first copyright collective management organization---Music Copyright Society of China, enacted Copyright Collective Management Regulations in March 2005, and established four collective management organizations including China Audio-Video Copyright Association, Copyright Society of Chinese Characters, Images Copyright Society of China and China Film Copyright Association.
