2009/12/09

It is learnt on December 1 from Intellectual Property Exhibition at the Expo 2010 Shanghai China that, 5 years since the implementation of the Regulation on the Protection of World Expo Logo Marks, departments of industry and commerce, copyright, customs and urban management have assisted the organizer of Expo 2010 Shanghai China and investigated and solved 175 cases of Expo symbols infringements.

From 2008 to the third season of 2009 only, departments of industry and commerce investigated and solved 55 cases of Expo symbols infringements, worth RMB 168,000.

Deputy Director General of Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination Huang Jianzhi said that, the Regulation on the Protection of World Expo Logo Marks is the first and the only legislation for the Expo 2010 Shanghai, which not only sufficiently indicates the international commitment and decisive determination of Chinese government in protecting the intellectual property rights (IPR) for the world expo, but also makes the Expo logo become the real carrier of the theme and concept of the Expo 2010; it plays an important role in keeping infringements within limits, protecting World Expo organization’s IPRs, guaranteeing the fulfillment of the market development concerning the Expo, and standardizing the propaganda activity.

In the past five years, Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination has made records for 61 Expo logos at State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC), among which there are 52 word logos and 5 graphic logos.

The Expo Symbols Administration Office, which set up by Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination, has accepted and recorded 279 applications by the public on using the Expo symbols, 80% of which have been approved.
