Hong Kong Internet Registration Co. Ltd (HKIRC) announced on December 21 that, the Chinese domain name ".香港"will be used in late 2010 and all the users of ".hk" can register for free, which was anticipated to promote the popularization of Chinese domain names.

According to the investigation of China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), over 60% of domestic netizens believed that it is easy to find and good for spreading if the domain name of the website is in native language; about 5.5% of netizens thought Chinese domain name is conducive to deepening the influence of national brand in internet. Since most of Chinese netizens welcomed the use of entire Chinese domain name, it is expected that the 180,000 users of ".hk" will register Chinese domain name of ".香港" in succession.
