On the morning of January 11, the State Council solemnly held National Science & Technology Awards Conference in the Great Hall of the People. The party and state leaders Hu Jintao, Wen Jiabao, Li Changchun, Xi Jinping and Li Keqiang attended the conference and awarded the prizes to the winners. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao made a speech at the conference on behalf of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council. Li Keqiang presided over the conference.

Gu Chaohao, a mathematician, and space scientist Sun Jiadong have won China's 2009 State Top Scientific and Technological Award, the country's highest science honor. Chinese President Hu Jintao handed out the award certificates to them. Then, the party and state leaders honored the deputies of National Natural Award, National Technology Invention Award, National Science and Technology Progress Award and International Science and Technology Cooperation Award of China.
