Vice SIPO Director appeals to intensify agricultural IPR protection

2010/03/09

On the afternoon of March 6, member of the national committee of CPPCC and Vice Deputy of the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) Li Yuguang appealed to pay more attention to agricultural IPR protection, particularly new variety seeds when interviewed by the reporter from China Daily.
Li Yuguang worried that, nowadays, China's production of farming products heavily depends on seeds imported, 50% or more of the vegetable seeds with high quality come abroad and cereal crops such as corn and soy also highly depend on foreign seeds.
Li added that, some developed countries like Holand and European Union attach much importance to the IPR protection of new farming varieties. However, China far lags behind in protecting IPRs of new farming technologies and products. So Li called on IPR protection of agricultural products.
