Beijing: trademark infringements account for 40% of IP cases

Trademark infringing cases are rapidly increased along with the increasingly evident economic value of trademarks. According to statistics of Beijing No.1 Intermediate People's Court, the court accepted 798 trademark infringing cases in 2009, increased by 12 times compared with 2005. The trademark cases accounted for 40% of the total amount of IP cases accepted by the court.
 
The Intellectual Property Division of Beijing No.1 Intermediate People's Court found according to statistics that, the amount of cases were increased all the way since the first trademark infringing case was accepted in 2002. The court totally accepted 61 trademark infringing cases, and the amount was 798 pieces in 2009, which was increased by 12 times in five years.

Rao Yadong, Judge of Beijing No.1 Intermediate People's Court in charge of related cases said, the trademark cases mainly involve famous brands, celebrities and hot issues. According to incomplete statistics, the disputes caused by imitation brands accounted for about 50% of the cases.
