2010/05/12

"China has launched over 230 research projects in fields such as new-energy and environmental protection since 2005, and has gained 1,100 scientific and technical achievements with independent intellectual property rights. The Shanghai World Expo has become a high-tech and low-carbon grand event thanks to these achievements," said Shou Ziqi, director of the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission.

First, the Expo is a green and eco-friendly event. For example, the Sun Valley uses natural lighting.

Second, the Expo is a low-carbon event. A total of 1,017 new-energy vehicles have been put into use, which will save more than 10,000 tons of oil, and reduce 118 tons of harmful substances and 28,400 tons of greenhouse gas emissions.

Third, the Expo helps improve the environment. For example, the Expo eco-wall is the largest in the world and can absorb four tons of carbon dioxide per year.

Fourth, the Expo adopts an integrated traffic information service system and a new video identification ticketing system.

Fifth, a real-time interactive network platform has been established specifically for Expo exhibition.

Sixth, the Expo is free from safety and health hazards. A variety of food safety-testing technologies and products have been used for real-time monitoring of toxic or hazardous substances.
