500 IP-related Criminal Cases Handled in First Half Year

In the first half year, local courts across the nation handled 500 cases involving IPR infringements and 809 suspects were condemned, learnt from Supreme People's Court.

Among these closed cases, 235 involved counterfeiting registered trademarks and courts’decisions were effective on 418 persons; 134 cases concerned selling commodities bearing counterfeiting registered trademarks and 177 offenders were adjudged guilty; cases relating to illegally manufacture the signs of registered trademarks or sell such signs were 67 and 91 offenders were sentenced; one case concerning counterfeiting patent and one person was punished; 46 cases concerned copyright infringement and 83 infringers were penalized; and 17 cases involved infringing trade secrets and 37 offenders were sentenced.

Vice Presiding Judge of the second criminal tribunal of the Supreme People’s Court Miao Youshui stated that, the people’s courts will fully exert the role of judicial protection and use various kinds of criminal measures to crack down upon IP-related crimes.
