Shandong: Qingdao Customs seized IP infringing commodities worth 13.24 million yuan

Since the launch of the special crackdown on combating intellectual property (IP) infringement and counterfeits in November 2010, Qingdao Customs has uncovered 598 IP infringing cases involving 93 IP owners from 18 countries (regions) and confiscated numerous articles to be exported to 35 countries (regions) valuing at 13.24 million yuan.

57 IPR violations (involving famous brands such as NIKE, ADIDAS, PUMA, TOYOTA and PHOENIX) were found during freight delivery procedures, in which, 9 cases were related to cargos to be exported to Africa and 5 cases were transferred to the public security organs.

Shandong public security organs detained 6 suspects including 3 foreigners for manufacturing and exporting fake NIKE products and seized 4 suspects for copying trademarks such as TOYOTA, ADIDAS, PUMA and CONVERSE.

In the next stage of the special campaign, Qingdao Customs will continuously cooperate with administrations for commerce and IPR as well as public security organs, courts and procuratorates to establish a sound information sharing mechanism and promote IPR protection.
