News from the Ministry of Agriculture that the Agricultural Intellectual Property Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Science has completed the China Agricultural Intellectual Property Creation Index Report (2010), commissioned by the Science and Education Department of the Ministry of Agriculture. The reporting system analyzes the number tendency, quality condition, geographic distribution, industrial structure, focus areas and superior units of the Agricultural Intellectual Property Creation of China.

The report shows that there is a substantial increase in the agricultural intellectual property. During the "Eleventh Five-Year" period, China's average annual growth of patent applications in agriculture is 18.03%, in which the average annual growth of　agricultural invention patents is 18.14% , respectively 4.35% and 3.99% upper than those of the　"Tenth Five-Year" period; the quality of the agricultural intellectual property are significantly improved. The provinces with the biggest number of applications and authorizations of new varieties of agricultural plants are Sichuan, Shandong, Henan, Jiangsu, Jilin and Beijing in the sequence of descending, altogether accounting for about 48.1% of the　China’s total domestic applications and 49.4% of the total authorizations; agricultural biotechnology inventions account for 32.53% of the agricultural　invention patent applications, 30.67% of the authorizations and 35.59% of the valid agricultural invention patents, the agricultural biotechnology becoming the key area of the agricultural science and technology innovation; science and education units hold 56.10%and 61.76% of applications and authorizations of the new varieties of plants.
