Jiangsu: Patent applications in Nanjing increasing by 70%

In the first half of 2011, patent applications in Nanjing largely increased, up 70.4% over the same period of 2010; invention patent applications, best representing one city's IP creativity, also increased by 51.2%, reported from Nanjing Municipal Intellectual Property Office on July 16.

In the first half of 2011, patent applications in Nanjing reached 10,698, with 4,635 invention patent applications, 3,125 utility model patent applications and 2,938 design patent applications. Its patent applications and invention patent applications ranked sixth and second respectively among similar cities nationwide. In addition, the patent grants amounted to 6,823, up 69.7%, 1,584 of which were invention patents, up 67.1%. Nanjing also topped the province in invention patent grants.

An officer from Nanjing IP Office explained that Nanjing ensured a rapid increase in patent applications in both quality and quantity by carrying out steering policies and promoting the release of distinctive resources. "To maintain this good momentum, Nanjing will diversify working efforts to quadruple patent applications, invention patent applications and grants," said the officer.
