Registrations of software copyrights in China reach record high

It is learnt from the National Copyright Administration on February 17 that in 2011, the registrations of software copyrights in China came up to 109,342, surpassing 100,000 for the first time, rising by 33.40% and being over 4 times more than 21,495 in 2006. 

According to the statistics released by China Copyright Protection Center, in 2011, the first three in software copyright registration were Beijing, Guangdong and Shanghai with 30,036 (27.47% of the gross registrations of the country), 19,572 (17.90%) and 10,181 (9.31%). Jiangsu and Zhejiang took the fourth and fifth places with 8,719 and 8,522 pieces of software copyright registrations. The total amount of registrations from the first five places was 77,030, over 70% of the gross number across the nation. 

An official from the National Copyright Administration expressed that the issuance of the Several Policies on Further Encouraging the Development of the Software and Integrated Circuit Industries, the effective implementation of a series of finance and taxation favorable policies in software industry, the enhancement of software IP protection in China and the overall promotion of software legalization in governmental departments and enterprises all boosted up the development of China’s software industry and ignited enterprises’ enthusiasm in software innovation, leading to the increase of software.[Chinese version is available on Xinhuanet.com]
