China: The State Forestry Administration intensifies efforts to protect plant variety rights

2012/05/10

The State Forestry Administration (SFA) is reportedly conducting investigations on plant variety rights violations nationwide from this May to June and will focus on tackling serious and major infringing cases found in the process from July to November.

Meanwhile, the SFA will launch pilot administrative enforcement programs in provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions) that are more competent in enforcing plant variety rights. Those programs aim to help them establish information platforms for rights enforcement that may share information with judicial departments step by step.

In a bid to implement the deployment of the State Council on plant variety rights, the SAF convened a meeting on April 26 to make working plans on reinforcing the enforcement of such rights. The meeting also talked about issues on propelling the commercialization of such rights and increasing the public awareness of rights protection.

The SAF required its local subordinates to establish and improve the administrative enforcement system of plant variety rights and enhance law disseminations so as to create a sound legislative environment.
