In the first half of this year, Jinan Municipal Intellectual Property Office of Shandong Province grasped opportunities to implement IPR strategy, resulting in the increase of invention patent applications and grants in the city.

In the first six months of 2012, the number of invention patent applications was 2,695, up 28.82%, accounting for 30.45% of the gross of patent applications of the whole city and 22.35% of the gross of invention patent applications of the whole province; invention patent grants were 1,027, up 32.35% and taking up 16.35% of the gross of patent grants of Jinan City and 28.09% of the invention patent grants of Shandong.

In the two quarters of this year, applications for invention patents, utility model patents and design patents respectively accounted for 30.45%, 62.50% and 7.05% of the patent applications of the whole city; authorizations for invention patents, utility model patents and design patents separately took up 16.35%, 74.19% and 9.46% of the gross of patent grants of the whole city. The proportions of invention patent applications and grants to the patent applications and grants of the whole city respectively rose by 3.76% and 2.73%, 6.57% and 5.08% higher than the average level of the province.

Valid invention patents of Jinan were 4,961 pieces, growing by 34.8% and effective invention patents for every ten thousand people reached 7.28 pieces.

In the first half of 2012, service invention patent applications of the whole city were 4,992 pieces, up 33.6% and accounting for 56.39% of the gross of patent applications across the city; service invention patent grants of Jinan were 3,279 pieces, up 45.09% and taking up 52.21% of patent grants of the whole city.

In the first ten rankings in terms of invention patent applications and grants, Lixia District, Licheng District and Shizhong District of Jinan City respectively took the first, the fourth and the eighth positions pertaining to invention patent applications, while Lixia District, Licheng District, Shizhong District and Tianqiao District respectively occupied the first, the third, the seventh and the tenth places in regards to invention patent grants.
